About Smessage.it

Smessage.it is an encrypted and secure platform allowing you to send and receive messages, files, and information with confidentiality, completely private, and untraceable. Initially developed at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Smessage.it approached chilliapple to develop various enhancements to deliver an entirely encrypted, secure, and unhackable platform.

The requirements included full end-to-end encryption coding, a user dashboard, username functionality, a home page redesign, a new CMS system to manage front-end content more efficiently, new payment gateways, and new subscription functionality that allowed for a 28-day free trial.

Technologies Used

We deployed the Laravel openssl_encrypt solution within PHP to ensure robust encryption for the messaging platform. Laravel uses OpenSSL to provide AES-256 and AES-128 encryption that offers good protection against hacking.

This project involved various aspects, including working on different parts of the website design and code. We performed end-to-end encryption coding and also encrypted all important information in the database.

  • User dashboard

    We built a user dashboard and user functionality to their messaging platform. This would allow targeted customers to easily manage their profiles and manage their activity over the platform.

  • Homepage redesign

    The platform’s homepage was redesigned to offer smooth navigation to users. We built a mock-up design and shared it with the client to ensure they found it appealing. After their approval, we implemented the new design on the platform.

  • New subscription functionality

    A subscription facility that permitted new customers to have 28 days of free trial was added. This was designed to boost the conversion rate of the business and onboard new customers seamlessly into the messaging platform.

Their business needs were distinct, and they were looking for homepage redesign, encryption, integration of payment gateways, and more. They also needed an easy-to-use CMS to manage the platform content with ease.

Smessage.it came to us looking for various enhancements to the platform. Their vision was to make the platform completely encrypted and secure against hacking. They demanded end-to-end encryption coding and tailoring various new features to the site. The platform Smessage.it needed a user dashboard and username functionality, and they also wanted to redesign the platform for a more intuitive UX. Building and integrating into a new content management system was crucial to manage front end content more efficiently. New payment gateways and new subscription functionality that allowed for a 28-day free trial also needed to be added to the platform.

A chilliapple account manager and a team of Laravel specialists were assigned to the project. It was managed with BaseCamp and the setting of milestones and regular Skype calls and emails to ensure progress and feedback were shared continuously.  We used the Laravel openssl_encrypt solution within PHP to deliver the guaranteed encryption promise and implemented Stripe and Paypal as payment options. We re-evaluated the user journey to keep visitors on the site and implemented improvements. We also recommended and developed a new CMS to allow staff to manage content, user information, and payments.

Result

Results

As standard, we also tracked site performance for 30 days and fixed any bugs. The site has been transformed into an easy to use and manage platform. Changes to the messaging dashboard and a new frontend design have persuaded more visitors to entrust anonymous messaging with Smessage.it. Enabling Stripe and PayPal, alongside a new subscription cancellation feature, has helped both the business and its users to manage subscription fees better. The new CMS has reduced the time and cost of updating content, information, and purchase data.
