About British Pobjoy Mint

Set up by the Pobjoy family in 1965, Pobjoy Mint is a manufacturer of legal tender coins for over ten British Overseas Territories. As a private mint, the company also produces medals, medallions, official regalia, tokens and numismatic gifts.  All coins bear HM Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy or the Coat of Arms of the country.

The Pobjoy Mint website was created on the Expression Engine platform, a content management system, and the requirement for business growth was to move to an ecommerce solution that was scalable, reliable, and feature-rich.

A chilliapple account manager, along with experienced chilliapple Magento engineers, designed a plan to migrate from Expression Engine such that day-to-day online sales for Pobjoy could continue without disruption. As an official Magento Solution Partner, chilliapple is well-versed in the design and development of Magento ecommerce shops. Multi-stores were needed, and previous functionality and content, such as pre-orders and government descriptions, were expected to be retained. Product data, customer accounts, orders, and blogs also needed to be migrated.

Results

SEO equity had to be considered, and so URL redirections were essential, along with the consistency of page titles and descriptions. There was also a Royal Mail Click and Drop feature to integrate and subscriptions to maintain. The migration to Magento has led to a more sustainable online offering for Pobjoy’s customers and a robust platform to allow the business to continuously add and enhance features. The improved online shop has been particularly helpful during the COVID-19 pandemic in supporting the growing number of customers who are buying online.
